We have worked long and hard to develop the magic bullet for MakerBot® extruders, and if there is a component that embodies this research, its the custom machined stainless steel of the MK5/MK6 Thermal Barrier Tube.
With precision machined screw teeth, it locks into the body of the MK5/MK6 Thermal Core, sealing tight and completely removing the possibility of heater barrel-to-thermal barrier leakage.
Not only is stainless steel an extremely strong and beautiful metal, but it also has one of the lowest thermal conductivities for a metal. This keeps the heat in the thermal core and keeps it away from your filament drive system.
The MK5 and MK6's custom machined components are all tapped to 3/8"-24 thread pitch.
